MY BATON ROUGE HANDYMAN

Central: check the address and the proposed change

Use Central's official planning resources and prepare a property-specific repair enquiry that separates the work, permissions and provider scope.

Start with the City of Central

The City of Central planning and zoning page links to its zoning information, application resources and official map. It also links to permits and inspections. Use the city's official navigation to find the current service you need rather than relying on an old bookmarked application.

For a Central property, verify the actual address and responsible office. A Baton Rouge postal description or the name of a nearby subdivision is not enough to decide the approval process.

Separate a repair from a new use or addition

Write a plain description of what exists and what you want to change. Reattaching or replacing a finish component, adding an accessory structure and changing how space is used are different proposals. Avoid describing all of them as a general maintenance job.

Include dimensions or product details when they help explain the proposal. If a location on the property matters, use an existing plan or a clear sketch for discussion, identifying it as an illustration rather than a survey.

Ask the right office the right question

A provider's price does not determine whether an approval is required. Ask the city which process, if any, applies to the proposed work at the specific address. Clarify whether an inspection, plan or other supporting material is needed and who is responsible for submitting it.

If the task changes after assessment, revisit that question. Do not assume an earlier answer for a smaller scope covers later additions. Association restrictions, when applicable, also need to be checked separately.

Keep ordinary repair details usable

For an interior task list, record the room, visible condition and desired finish. For assembly, provide the exact model and instructions. For wall repairs, note the history of the damage and any completed assessment of its cause.

Use the project checklist and services guide to organize the request. Submit an enquiry for possible independent-provider referral. This is a planning page, not a municipal service or a Central contractor office; qualifications, scope and availability must be confirmed separately.
